The history of Sri Ramakrishana Gurukula Vidyamandiram begins with a great benevolent personality named Swami Thyageesanandaji Maharaj, who dedicated his life for the upliftment of the downtrodden. He was an advocate but after embracing Sanyasa he dedicated his life to teaching. Swamiji witnessed the miserable conditions of the members of the backward community in Puranattukara. Realizing the importance of education he consulted sri Appan Thampuram one of the members of The Cochin Royal family to find a solution for the betterment of the poor people. Sri Appanthampuran extended his full support and sri Bhaskaran [who became swami Krithatmanandaji later] informed them about a piece of land which belonged to Sri Pattiakkal Thomakutty at Puranatukara.

The land was purchased for Rs 200 .On June 1st 1927, Sri Ramakrishna Gurukulam became a reality. Classes 1 and 2 started simultaneously. Sri Appan Thampuran was the first Manager, Sri Sivarama Menon the first Head Master and the teachers were Sri Echara Warrier,Sankara Warrier and Ambady Narayana Menon .Along with the school was established a Sanskrit Padashala, Weaving classes ,Stone cutting society and the Gurukulam hostel. In 1932 it became a high school.

21 students appeared for the first SSLC examination and 18 students came out with first class .Now there are nearly 3000 students and 100 staff members.Acadamic, Curricular, Co-curricular activities go hand in hand. Both English and Malayalam medium classes function smoothly with the grace of Sri Ramakrishna .We maintain quality and discipline. Preference is given to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and other backward communities .Our motto is service and we try our best to serve the downtrodden.
